5 LinkedIn Messages That Got My Clients Job Interviews
Jun 27, 2025
You’ve probably sent a few LinkedIn messages before — maybe to a recruiter, a connection at a company you admire, or someone in a similar role. And if you’re like most people, you’ve also been ignored. Ghosted. Left on “Seen.”
The truth is, most LinkedIn messages don’t work because they’re too vague, too pushy, or just too long.
But when done right? A message can change everything. I’ve seen it — over and over again. Clients landing interviews, getting referrals, and even receiving job offers — all starting with one message.
In this post, I’m sharing 5 real templates that got my clients responses, interviews, and traction with companies abroad and remote-first teams. And I’ll break down why they worked, so you can adapt them to your own voice and goals.
What Most Messages Get Wrong
Before we get to the good ones, let’s fix the bad habits. Here’s what I see too often:
-
Messages that are way too long (more than 3–4 lines)
-
Asking for a job right away
-
No context — “Hi, can you help me?” isn’t a strategy
-
Not personalizing, sending the same message to 50 people
-
Talking only about yourself, not about the other person
Networking isn’t begging. It’s about connecting. And for that, you need to make it easy for someone to say yes.
Template 1: The Warm Connection Request
- Use when: You found someone you admire or someone in your target role/company.
- Message: "Hi [Name], I came across your profile while researching [Company] and saw that you’ve been doing great work in [Field/Role]. I’m exploring similar opportunities and would love to stay connected."
- Why it works: It’s short, respectful, and shows genuine interest. You’re not asking for anything yet — just opening the door.
Template 2: The Informational Ask (Soft Approach)
- Use when: You want to learn more about a company or role, but not pitch yourself yet.
- Message: "Hi [Name], I hope you’re doing well. I’ve been researching [Company] and your role caught my attention. I’m currently exploring similar paths and would really appreciate any insights you’d be open to sharing."
- Why it works: You’re not asking for a job. You’re inviting a conversation. This builds trust and often leads to referrals without even asking.
Template 3: The Direct Referral Ask
- Use when: You’ve built some rapport or have a common background (same country, industry, school).
- Message: "Hi [Name], I noticed we both have a background in [Shared Interest]. I came across a role at [Company] that aligns with my experience and goals. If you’re comfortable, I’d truly appreciate a referral or any guidance you could offer."
- Why it works: It’s polite and clear. You’re showing alignment and giving them the choice, which makes it easier to respond.
Template 4: The Recruiter Engagement
- Use when: You’re reaching out to a recruiter who posted a job or works at your target company.
- Message: "Hi [Name], I saw your post about the [Job Title] role at [Company] and I’m very interested. I bring [Years] years of experience in [Field] and would love to learn more about the opportunity. Thanks for your time!"
- Why it works: It’s concise, relevant, and shows you’ve done your homework. You lead with value, not a vague ask.
Template 5: Follow-Up After No Response
- Use when: They accepted your request or saw your message but didn’t reply.
- Message: "Hi [Name], just wanted to follow up in case my last message got buried. I’d still love to connect or hear your thoughts whenever you have a moment. Wishing you a great week ahead!"
- Why it works: It’s polite, non-pushy, and keeps the door open. People get busy, and follow-ups often lead to replies.
